Prelude 01:53

Little Choir 02:41
There's a little choir of angels in the corner of my room If I believe it so They harmonize the lullabies I hum into my pillow When I need them most Ah Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Tiny fairies find their way in through the window They love to play along to our secret song They sing of wonders still unknown to this world And I believe them so Oh, I believe them so Yes, I believe them so For all we have is hope
3.
Nameless 04:34
Once more I wait in shadow Over the well And hope Some nameless vision Will be revealed To me At last For so long there I stood Maybe words flood the mind Where the sun meets the hillside If only I knew What name to call you by Then would you be mine All mine
4.
Cherub 02:20
Some days the sound of the door floods the heart with a light that could blind And others I'm limp as a rag How gently you peel me off the ground and wring out the bad Hung off the lip of the sink, and whining all the while And still, I'm your sweet thing somehow When I turn out the lamplight, we are two glowing hearts, pink and warm And after the giggles wear off, I never can sleep How I envy you, falling so swiftly And you always look just as a cherub, curled in a cloud of white covers I say it all the time, in my mind I'm already your wife Now I have hope in a life full of misplaced emotion and well-meant wrongdoings I don't know what, but I must've done something right

Ribbons 05:44
A darkness branches out and claws at the ceiling of sky N' let it be revealed where heaven hides From bleak and shattered night Out falls a bright white A rolling mist and flailing ribbon They curl 'round my arms Pull me up toward the place the darkness opened A soulless empty room now home to a sparkling cocoon Blink just to feel the fluttering lash against my silken world Close and colourful I'll let them rest now And soon I'll emerge Winged and shimmering From silken-coloured strands I'll sew myself a flower garden And sing my Fairy Songs forevermore

about

When I sit down to write, what often comes to me most naturally (and at times against my own will) are lullabies and waltzes, or some combination of the two. I have obvious sources to blame for this - primarily the fairytale films I adored in my childhood and the timeless melodies that came with them, always embellished with strings, bells and harps. Writing Fairy Songs was a way of celebrating and indulging in my life-long obsession with the lullaby as a mode of music. To me, a lullaby is ephemeral and miniature, shining and secret - something you can hold in your palm, like a keepsake in a trinket box. Some of these songs are intricate and impressionist, others simple and tender, and all are connected in this small, glowing feeling.

The sonic world of this EP is an exploration in what I’ve been referring to as magic realism in sound - my usual sparkly synths are balanced with acoustic sounds, moments of pause and textural noise; I wanted to hear the human hand in the ethereal - as though these sounds were not created in an electronic world, but have always existed among us in the real world. Maybe we’d hear them if we just listened close enough?
